Washington County Home Buyer Program

These funds could close the gap between what a home buyer can afford to pay as a monthly housing payment (approximately 28% of the household's gross income), and the cost of a safe, decent home. The average subsidy benefit will be approximately $15,500. Funds may be used in a variety of ways:

  • buy down the mortgage cost to make monthly payments affordable
  • assist with closing costs
  • assist with down payment
  • correct code violations or structural deficiencies
  • retrofit home for households with special needs

HomeFront will work with the home buyer as needed:

  • to select a lending institution
  • to select a Realtor
  • to identify an existing home that qualifies for program funding assistance
  • to obtain bank approved home buyer education

What are the Income Guidelines?

Income guidelines for 2000-2001 were the Federal HUD, Section 8 Income Limits. Total GROSS household income shall not exceed 80% of the median income as listed.

How Will Applicants Be Selected?

A committee will select the most qualified applicants based on need, income and readiness to become a home owner.

AFFORDABILITY is a major consideration. Adequate income, limited debts, and bank financing are key factors for program participation.

ALL applicants will be required to participate in a certified home buyers' education workshop.

What Type of Home is Eligible?

Washington County existing housing stock. Suggested criteria for selecting a home would include homes built since 1950 and requiring limited repairs.

What Communities Will This Program Serve?

All communities in Washington County.
